Après un bon petit déjeûner (oeufs dans le trou préparé par Xavier), nous larguons les amarres , de Little Falls, sous un crachin! Mais le temps s'arrange en cours de route. Nous découvrons la très belle rivière Mohawk,qui serpente entre falaises et montagnes, celle-là même que nous avions aperçu à Waterford , lors de notre passage sur la Nouba!
C'est la partie du trajet que Xavier préfère!
After a good breakfast (egg in the hole) made by Xavier, we cast off, and head to Amsterdam (NY) Nothing to do with the real Amsterdam (Holland)! We are navigating on the superb Mohawk River, between cliffs and mountains. Xavier's favorite part of the trip so far.
We get the lst scratch on Nomades's gelcoat in an overfilled lock (our fenders were too low) (we won't say that the captain was going a bit too fast coming in either)
We tied up at the municipal dock in Amsterdam. You can cross over the railway tracks on an overpass, similar to the one, in Longueil. You can walk or bike across it.
The trains kept us awake !
There are 4 sailboats tied up where we are (Bungalow, Griffin, Sovereingty, and Phantasia 11. Sovereingty is a Catalina 27 en route to the Finger Lakes from New York. Phantasia 11 (Mike and Jake Finn) onboard a Niagara 35 are going home to Toronto. They gave us their tide book ! We are going to put it to good use !
Nous faisons un première éraflure sur la coque de Nomades , nos pare-battages était trop bas pour l'écluse qui était remplie presqu'à capacité. (On ne dira pas que le capitaine allait un peu trop vite aussi) !
Nous nous amarrons à Amsterdam , au quai municipal. Une passerelle (comme à Longueil au Québec) permet de traverser à pied ou en vélo, la gare de triage. On entendra les trains passer pendant toute la nuit !
Nous sommes 4 voiliers au quai (Bungalow, Griffin, Sovereingty, et Phantasia II).
Sovereignety , un Catalina 27, parti de NY depuis mai dernier, est en route pour les Finger Lakes.
Phantasia II (Mike et Jake Finn) à bord d'un Niagara 35 rentrent au pays.
