Sur le chemin du retour / On the Way Back

We waited the passage of cold fronts in George Town before setting sail for Rudder Cut Cay ...

We had a wonderful sail (7 knots on average) from George Town to Rudder Cut Cay on the Sound but we had quite a rolling ride in the cut to the Bank.  Fortunately, it was a fast ride!
The shade curtains made by Christian when we were home are very useful to cut the heat and the glare of the sun in the cockpit!
The next day , we set sail for White Point on Great Guana Cay... A peaceful sail , jib only!

Et c'est déjà la mi-mars!  Mid-March already!
Or next stop: Black Point on Great Guana Cay.  A nice anchorage, a friendly small town, a fairly well stocked grocery with reasonable prices, free water, and lovely paths to explore !

Blow Holes  (à marée basse)

La plage côté du Détroit / Beach, Sound Side

Une autre journée, une autre île ! Another day, Another Cay! Thomas Cay !
We go to Pipe Creek, famous for its crystal clear water!
Walking on the beach at Thomas Cay, we find two paths that lead to the Sound .
The sight is worth it!

Back to Staniel Cay (Great Guana Cay), we relax on the beach at Big Major Spot , also known as Bay of Pigs, because feral pigs come beg for food... will to swim for it !

On March 23rd, the gas tank of the dinghy engine is running so low that Christian is afraid he won't be able to drive me to the Staniel Cay airport en Monday. The Yacht Club has none and does not expect any until April.
Off we go to Sampson Cay, about 5 milles from where we are.
We are pleased to discover a beautiful yacht club, with sandy and rocky pathways, and an inside harbour, where we dinghy between sand banks.

We spend the night there at anchor and we go back to Staniel Cay the next day.

This is here that Christian will await my return from home.

vendredi 9 mars 2012

George Town Blues !

Before leaving Staniel Cay, we saw the nurse sharks being fed bits of fish on the docks of the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.

On Friday, March 2nd, we lifted anchor and set sail for Rudder Cay.
Nous hissons la grand-voile.  We hoist the main sail.
But once again, the wind is on the nose ! We drop the hook close to Tortue de mer and its dinghy aptly named lièvre (hare)  ! Another Quebec sailboat anchors near us a little later. The water is warm (29 degrees Celsius).  Nous allons visiter de belles caves .  We had a look at two beautiful caves.

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012.  A change of plan. Instead of going to George Town today, we go to Leaf Cay on the advace of a Ottawa Sailor on Stormy Weather.  He told us that we would have good sailing winds to George Town on Sunday.
We drop the hook behind the beach at Leaf Cay and we go ashore.  Pink Iguanas come to look us over, expecting hand outs of fruits or veggies.

Back on Nomades, we decide to re-anchor close to the NOOA Research Centre on Lee Stocking Is. , less then a mile away from Leaf Cay, because of the wave action (side-to-side)  very unconfortable!
We quickly learned why we were the only boat anchored there.

Sunday , March 4, 2012, we got up at sunset, after our worst night on board because of the wave actions with the tide.
We set sail for George Town, and we have our best and longuest sail since our departure from Tiger Point (North Florida), 5 hours, on a close reach, on the Exuma Sound.
We drop the hook near George Town, Kidds Bay. We have to go under a small bridge to tie up the dinghy.
André and Christiane reserve their transportation by cab and water taxi to the airport for tomorrow.
They treat us for lunch at the Peace & Plenty Hotel.

In the evening,  the water si still, and we watch small fry being chased and eaten by bigger fish.
Nos amis ont fait leurs bagages.  Our friends packed their suitcases.
Je préfère les arrivées au départ.  I much prefer arrivals to departures.
Le vent se lève vers minuit.  Wind starts blowing at around midnight.  Une autre nuit inconfortable. Another sleepless night.

The sun has not yet risen when our friends take the water taxi.
Before re-anchoring near Stocking Island, we do laundry.
It is as windy over here but not as much waves.
We are now awaiting calmer winds to slowly make our way north and Nassau.
In the meantime, we discover Stocking Island, and listen to the "net" with the weather forecast and the list of daily events.
