Une journée touristique. Nous profitons de la camionnette pour nous rendre sur les hauteurs du fleuve Hudson pour visiter Olana, le chateau à la persane construit par le peintre Frederick Edwin Church, un élève du fondateur de la Hudson River School, Thomas Cole.
Le château, ses terres, et ses jardins valent le détour ! On peut y admirer plusieurs originaux de Church, ainsi que de plusieurs autres peintres.
J'en profite pour arrêter au site historique Cedar Grove , au retour, pour visiter la maison, plus modeste qu'Olana, et l'atelier de Thomas Cole. Je suis très contente de l'avoir fait. On y trouve cependant moins d'oeuvres originales de Cole qu'à Olana.
Nous amenons Xavier à Albany ou il prend le car pour Montréal. La nuit sera longue pour lui! Sa présence nous manque. Merci Xavier !
We took advantage of the truck to do some tourism today! We started with Olana, overlooking the Hudson River. This persian style castle was built by the artist Frederick Edwin Church, a pupil of the founder of the Hudson River Schook, Thomas Cole.
The castle, the grounds and the gardens are beautiful to see. We can admire many original paintings by Church , as well as some from other artists.
I also visited Cedar Grove (in Catskill) later to see Thomas Cole' s house and studio. More modest in style and in scale then Olana) and I am quite happy to have done so. There is only one original work of Cole though.
Around 23:00 we left by car to bring Xavier to the bus station in Albany. He has a long night before him. We miss him already. Thank you Xavier !
