Jekyll Island GA !!!

Nous devions aller à Brunswick aujourd'hui, mais nous avons opté plutôt pour Jekyll Island.  L'île a déjà été le terrain de jeu exclusif de richissimes  familles américaines , dont les Vanderbilts, les Morgan, les Astors  et les Rockerfellers, qui y ont fait construire d'énormes "chalets".  Elle a été achetée par l'état de la Géorgie en 1947 qui  a entrepris de limiter le développement et de protéger l'environnement.

We intended to go to Brunswick today but we chose instead to drop the hook at Jekyll Island.  The island was the playground of the rich and famous more then a century ago, the Morgans, the Vanderbilts, the Astors, and the Rockerfellers, who built enormous winter "cottages".  It was purchased  by the state of Georgia in 1947 who set about limiting development and protecting the natural landscape.

Après avoir jeté l'ancre, nous avons mis le dinghy à l'eau, les vélos dans le dinghy, et nous sommes partis explorer l'île qui a un très beau réseau de pistes cyclables.
After anchoring, we went ashore, bikes in the dinghy, to explore the island wich has a beautiful network of cycling paths.

Mais la piste cyclable que l'on préfère, c'est la plage ouverte sur la mer !
But our favorite cycling path is the beach on the ocean!

Nous retrouvons un coeur d'enfant !
We are kids at heart !

Ce coquillage était vivant !  This shellfish was still alive!  Nous l'avons remis à l'eau!  We put it back to sea!
En passant, les crevettes sauvages de la Géorgie, cuites à point à la vapeur dans un court-bouillon, sont délicieuses!
The wild Georgia shrimps, steamed in a court-bouillon, are simply delicious !

Nous avons reporté à demain la visite du quartier historique, et du centre de réhabilitation des tortues marines.  Le temps s'est fait menaçant, et nous n'étions pas certain , si Nomades aurait assez d'eau sous la quille à la marée basse.
We push back to tomorrow the tour of the historic quarter, and of the Georgia Sea Turtle Centrer. Grey clouds were forming, and we were not sure if there would be enough water under Nomades's keel at low tide.

Nomades flottait encore (2 pieds d'eau sous la quille) à notre retour!

Nomades still had 2 ft of water under the keel when we came back !
Le soleil est revenu. The sun came back.

Mais le mercure va tomber autour du point de congélation cette nuit.
But the temperature will drop to around freezing point overnight!
