George Town Blues !

Avant de quitter Staniel Cay, nous avons assisté au repas des requins nourrices (nurse sharks) ! Before leaving Staniel Cay, we saw the nurse sharks being fed bits of fish on the docks of the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.

Le vendredi 2 mars 2012, nous levons l'ancre à destination de Rudder Cay.   On Friday, March 2nd, we lifted anchor and set sail for Rudder Cay.
Nous hissons la grand-voile.  We hoist the main sail.  Mais on a encore un fois le vent dans le nez!
But once again, the wind is on the nose !  Nous jetons l'ancre près de Tortue de mer (et son dinghy Lièvre) . We drop the hook close to Tortue de mer and its dinghy aptly named lièvre (hare)  ! Un autre bateau québécois, Umido, vient s'ancrer près de nous. Another Quebec sailboat anchors near us a little later.  On se baigne près de Nomades, l'eau est chaude (29 degrés centigrades)  We swim near Nomades. The water is warm (29 degrees Celsius).  Nous allons visiter de belles caves .  We had a look at two beautiful caves.

Le samedi 3 mars 2012, nous devions partir pour George Town mais nous décidons d'aller à Leaf Cay sur les conseils de Stormy Weather (un voilier d'Ottawa) parce que dimanche nous aurions un bon vent pour nous rendre à la voile à Elisabeth Harbour.  
Saturday, March 3rd, 2012.  A change of plan. Instead of going to George Town today, we go to Leaf Cay on the advace of a Ottawa Sailor on Stormy Weather.  He told us that we would have good sailing winds to George Town on Sunday. 
Nous nous ancrons derrière la plage à Leaf Cay et allons faire un tour dans l'île... des iguanes roses viennent nous examiner , sans doute en quête de morceaux de légumes ou de fruits. 
We drop the hook behind the beach at Leaf Cay and we go ashore.  Pink Iguanas come to look us over, expecting hand outs of fruits or veggies.

De retour sur Nomades, nous décidons de nous ré-ancrer près du centre de recherche NOOA à Lee Stocking Island, moins d'un mille de Leaf Cay à cause du roulis !
Back on Nomades, we decide to re-anchor close to the NOOA Research Centre on Lee Stocking Is. , less then a mile away from Leaf Cay, because of the wave action (side-to-side)  very unconfortable!
On a vite compris pourquoi nous étions les seuls là.  We quickly learned why we were the only boat anchored there.

Dimanche, le 4 mars, 2012, lever à l'aurore, après notre pire nuit à bord, à cause du roulis.  Sunday , March 4, 2012, we got up at sunset, after our worst night on board because of the wave actions with the tide.  Nous mettons cap sur George Town, et nous faisons notre plus belle et longue voile au près depuis notre départ de Tiger Point (Floride du Nord)... 5 heures, sur le détroit Exuma.
We set sail for George Town, and we have our best and longuest sail since our departure from Tiger Point (North Florida), 5 hours, on a close reach, on the Exuma Sound.
Nous nous ancrons à Kidds Bay, près de la ville.  Il faut passer sous un petit pont pour aller sur le Lac Victoria, et amarrer notre dinghy.  
We drop the hook near George Town, Kidds Bay. We have to go under a small bridge to tie up the dinghy.  André et Christiane organisent leur taxi et le "watertaxi" qui les conduiront tôt demain à l'aéroport.  Ils nous payent la traite au restaurant de l'hôtel Peace & Plenty.
André and Christiane reserve their transportation by cab and water taxi to the airport for tomorrow.
They treat us for lunch at the Peace & Plenty Hotel.

 En soirée, l'eau est calme.  Nous voyions de jolis petits poissons poursuivis par de plus gros. In the evening,  the water si still, and we watch small fry being chased and eaten by bigger fish. 
Nos amis ont fait leurs bagages.  Our friends packed their suitcases. 
Je préfère les arrivées au départ.  I much prefer arrivals to departures.
Le vent se lève vers minuit.  Wind starts blowing at around midnight.  Une autre nuit inconfortable. Another sleepless night.

Le soleil n'est pas encore levé lorsque nos amis montent dans le water taxi.  The sun has not yet risen when our friends take the water taxi. 
Avant d'aller nous ré-ancrer près de Stocking Island (Honeymoon Beach) nous allons faire la lessive. Before re-anchoring near Stocking Island, we do laundry.
Il vente tout autant ici, mais il y a moins de vague.  It is as windy over here but not as much waves.
Nous attendons maintenant que le vent se calme pour commencer notre remontée sur Nassau. We are now awaiting calmer winds to slowly make our way north and Nassau. 
Entretemps, nous découvrons les charmes de Stocking Island, et du "net" qui nous donne la météo tous les matins, ainsi que les activités du jour.
In the meantime, we discover Stocking Island, and listen to the "net" with the weather forecast and the list of daily events.
